Quiz Night by Emma

quiz night

Well where do I start ? Quiz night which was held on the 24th march at The Rare breeds centre. It was attended by approx 150 people, Sarah and I were overwhelmed by the support shown by so many and words will never express how grateful we are to everybody who attended and for those who didn't attend but still purchased raffle tickets. massive thanks also to Sarahs husband James and our C-O-T computer expert Adam and to my amazing family my sister Heather and my mum and dad June and Phil, without them assisting us with the bar, sale of raffle tickets and cook books and generally being a huge support we would not have got through the evening.

Preparation of the hall took five hours but i hope you will agree when I say it looks good.
Sarah and I learnt the importance of being organised as months of preparation meant that things went together smoothly and apart from a slight blip on the bar and till (who would have thought the bar would be that busy)we sailed through the evening, Sarah was amazing on the microphone entertaining everybody.

I ran around marking papers, seeing to peoples needs including collecting glasses of water for Sarah that never actually reached her. somewhere sits her glass of water but where nobody knows.
It appeared the questions went down well, the teams responded to the answers with either a cheer or a boo, banter went backwards and forwards and at one point I stood thinking did we really organise this? everybody was laughing and appearing to enjoy themselves yet we were raising money and awareness of our trek too.

We had made the radio that morning with somebody (still unsure who) wishing us good luck, this kind of gesture keeps us going.
The raffle was a huge success which only happened due to the generosity of so many companies and people, 20 winning prizes meant that 20 people were happy.
Well of course its only fair i mention the winning team yes CONGRATULATIONS to the odd squad who some would know as holly cottage, well done holly. runners up were The Mariners who sure did give holly a run for their money.

So of course what everyone is waiting for the total amount raised, well on the actual night we raised £642.90 but with raffle tickets sold beforehand I have great pleasure in telling you all that we raised £795.90
wow, it really was beyond our wildest dreams and I know we keep saying it but THANK YOU.
our total amount raised to date is £2042.78

We await Easter at The Farm now where we will be out and about meeting people.

I would like to say a personal thank you to Simon and Rosemary who kindly donated a generous amount to our trek/ charity. Simon and Rosemary live locally and are both very keen to create habitats for birds and bee's alike!

When you receive a donation like this you know that all our fundraising efforts are worth while.

So many thanks to Simon and Rosemary

Just to let you know I am still off the chocolate, it doesn't bother me now as long as I can still eat my sweets and crisps! As you know Emma has failed this task BIG TIME! The other day she even ate a slice of Rocky Road in front of me when I mentioned that she shouldn't be eating chocolate she claimed she forgot! Honestly is she for real and as for James he hid a big pack of M&M's under my pillow to try and tempt me! I don't know good job I have got will power!

Open Day by emma

Hi all,
Yesterday was open day at The Canterbury Oast Trust which was an opportunity to meet people and tell them about what our charity provides, unfortunately I was unable to attend due to work commitments but Sarah took control and with regular text updates it ended with a text saying that with the sale of raffle tickets and cookbooks and kind donations Sarah had raised £69.80.
THANKS SARAH for going alone and helping swell the fundraising pot.
We have many thank you's to do to kind people who have donated money especially simon gifford who kindly donated £100.00 this week.
Its countdown to quiz night with just a few days to go, regular conversations between Sarah and I are ensuring that we have not forgotten anything, we hope it will be an enjoyable night for everyone attending and that the hard work will pay off with good amounts raised.
I have been back in training this week with a couple of gym visits and this morning i got home from work, collected by bike and headed to the swimming pool for 32 lengths, before biking home for a much needed day off.
Well I will be back after the quiz night with good news (don't forget its not to late to purchase raffle tickets), speak soon.

Well here we are again after another busy week, I went to the farm last night to feed the sheep and the sock lambs, James only has 9 Ewes left to lamb not bad after staring out with about 160 3 weeks ago. We now have 4 sock lambs to bottle feed, I love doing this as they are so tame and friendly you can also get up close to them and pick them up if you want.

No names yet any suggestions?

After feeding the sock lambs we went out on the farm to feed the rest of the Ewes

The lambs are taller then Dino!

Also as you know Emma and I on Thursday went to work in the Hitrade Charity Shop based in Sidcup, as I said before this shop donate a lot of money to the Trust every year. So Emma and I thought we would introduce ourselves and lend a hand. Once we arrived and met the 6 ladies who were working that day, one of the ladies we were working with is an Auntie to Russell one of residents that lives in one of our supported living houses. After a quick cup of tea we rolled up our sleeves and got stuck in date rotating and pricing stock, we were kept busy all day and even though the shop is quite small you would be surprised how much stock is in there and how busy with customers it was. There was people dropping off stuff all the time and those people dropping off stock ended up buying lots as well! Even I had a purchase I can't believe what great value for money this shop was I am defiantly going to make more of an effort to shop in Charity shops more often, such a shame this one isn't local.
Well that was our day working in the shop and we both are going planning to go back soon to re stock our wardrobe and of course lend a hand. Thanks to all of the ladies that made us very welcome.

Rite I'm off to do some gardening as its a nice day then after lunch James and I are off for a bike ride!

Good evening all how are we? Did you have pancakes last night? I did James cooked mine for me! Some more good news Emma and I have had DAB Digital Radio donated to us for our raffle we are holding on the quiz night. The radio was kindly donated by my friend Jodie along with her mum & dad Lynn & Pete on behalf of their company Minners Farm so a big thank you to you. As this is a great donation it will be 1st prize and like we have done for all our sponsors we promise to display their website so please visit
www.minnersfarmliveries.com for more information.

Well tomorrow Emma and I are going to provide our services at a charity shop, don't laugh the ladies who volunteer in the shop are looking forward to meeting us. The shop is based in Sidcup and is called Hitrade they very kindly donate much of their profits every year to The Canterbury Oast Trust. They have also already donated money for us to purchase a video camera so that we can make a video diary of our trek. After the trek this camera will be donated to one of our Residential homes so that the residents can make good use of it.

I will let you know how our day goes!

Chow for now x

Hi all

I know I haven't been blogging for while, I'm not gonna make any excuses but like us all I have been extremely busy working and James is in the middle of lambing at the mo, he started at the beginning of February. For those who don't know James runs a farm with his dad so I don't see him much whilst lambing is going on. James carries out the day shift starting at 5.30am and usually isn't home before 7pm he has his tea then goes to bed! That's when Terry (Jame's dad) takes over and does the night shift! I try and help out when I can and I took Emma down the farm last Wednesday night to feed the sock lambs. We have 3 socks lambs at the mo which need to be bottle fed 4 times a day. Whilst Emma was down the farm she saw her 1st ever lamb being born!
Emma and I have put the finish the finishing touches to the Quiz night, we have finalised the raffle prizes that were kindly donated to us. We have 20 prizes in total so we both hope the raffle and the whole night is a success, will keep you posted.
Changing the subject completely you will be pleased to know that Anna and I are still holding out strong when it comes to not eating chocolate. As you have probably read Emma has failed miserably she has no will power!
Got to go James has just come home and I got to sort his dinner, will promise to write again soon.
