I have worked for the Canterbury Oast Trust for over 2 years now as a Marketing and Reception Assistant for the Rarebreeds Centre. As a well known established visitor attraction the centre also provides work and training opportunities' for adults with all disabilities. Here they are provided training and also learn vital skills in a great working environment.
So when my colleague Emma mentioned the charity challenge to trek The Great Wall of China, in 2012, I thought this a fantastic venture to embark on but I also thought what a great opportunity to raise awareness of the Trust and at the same time raising much needed money for the charity. Although I am really excited about the trek I have have to be realistic and face up to the physical challenges a head. This will see me trekking for up to 8 hours a day for distances of at least 12km each day along stony, twisting uneven paths. To fulfil this goal I will have to be very self disciplined and set myself a vigorous training regime to help me complete this journey.
Not only will this be a great achievement for me I also have to remember I have pledged to raise a minimum of £5000 for our chosen charity. I know this will be tough in itself but I believe I am able to accomplish this because I know I have the support of all my colleagues, friends and family.
Not forgetting the most rewarding thing of all is seeing the residents and service users I work with in our establishment benefiting from all the sponsorship money raised during this challenge.
So won't you support me in my efforts to fund raise money to help me fulfil this challenge I have set myself.
