Another successful fundraising event for Emma and I this weekend, this was our last big fundraising event of the year. This is a big milestone for Emma and I as it marks a very long year of hard fundraising for us but by god it has been worth it. Anyway back to the weekend, Emma and I had a stall each selling cakes, biscuits, cookies, jams, chutneys and cook books. The fair was busy and we didn't even get a chance to sit down but that' what its all about. I was the one organising the fair I was running around making sure all the stall holders were ok and had to make sure everything was going to plan but I can't complain because all our customers were very nice and generous we were even selling cakes to the stall holders! Emma and I didn't stop talking about china all weekend!
As well as selling all our goodies some people made donations as well and to everyone who brought off our stalls or who kindly donated to us/charity we are truly grateful.
So after the busy two days our total raised was £410 this was a combinations of what we sold and donations. I think you will agree this is a fantastic amount and Emma and I are really amazed at how generous people are and we can't thank you all enough.
It leaves me to say a big thank you to all involved that made this weekend possible, thank you to June (Emma's mum) and Anna (my sis) who helped us on the stall with setting up and clearing away.
Also a special thanks to June, Anna, Heather, Julie, Siana and James who made us the stock to sell without you we really wouldn't have had a great supply of goodies to sell!
Also a big thank you to Shelia who also provided us with lots of items to sell that she made herself including cushions, blankets & doorstops.
We really appreciate everyones help and support and thank you to all that came along to support us and the fair.

Well busy weekend for me I decided to do a couple of boot fairs to earn some spending money for me for the China Trek. Saturday saw me in the loft sorting out all the gear I didn't want I also priced up my goods and packed up my car for an early start on Sunday, sounds like an easy job but it took me nearly all day!
On Sunday I did the boot fair at Brookland, James also managed to come along to lend a hand, although I'm sure he came along for the burger stall! I told him he would need to pay for his food out of his own pocket not my profits! We had a really good day I made about £45 which was good as all my stuff was priced around 50p & £1. I really enjoy doing boot fairs, I know that's sad but its like having your own shop and your in charge! Also what you think is crap and old toot always manages to sell and I sold about half my stuff. So after a successful day I thought as my car was already packed up I might as well do another on Bank Holiday Monday. I know there was another booty being held at Great Chart cricket club so I thought if I wake up and the weather is good I will do it. So off we went again Monday morning setting off at 6.30am, James joined me again bless him it was his birthday and he spent the morning in a field selling all our bits and bobs. He was well happy though when the old bbq started up but again he wanted to take the money for his burger out of the profits well I said no & he had to pay for it out of his birthday money! We both had a good day and made £47.50, I didn't have much stock left over what I did have I bagged up for the charity shop. So we are both knackered but I think it was well worth it.

Our famous cookbook has arrived and is on sale for the suggested donation price of £3.95. The book is size A5, consists of 20 recipes kindly donated by friends, family, colleagues & of course not forgetting the famous chefs Gary Rhodes & Phil Vickery who also donated a recipe each as well. It contains artwork & illustrations done by our residents & service users who attend The Rainbow Gallery, which is an art & craft centre based at The Rare breeds Centre. Please take a look at their very own website to see all the good work that they do http://www.rainbowgallery.org.uk/
We hope this book will generate lots of money for our chosen charity & if you would like to make a purchase, they are available from our gift shop, restaurant or the enquiries office at The Rare breeds Centre. Alternatively if you don't live close to the centre we would be happy to post you a copy to you. You would need to make the payment through our just giving account of £4.95 (£1 towards postage) then we will send to you to the address you provide us via email sk@rarebreeds.org.uk or emmastan@hotmail.co.uk When using just giving please indicate where messages can be left that it is a donation for the cook book not a sponsor www.justgiving.com/chinatrek2012
I also need to mention the kindness of Buckland Press who are a local printing firm which kindly printed us the cookbooks & for this Emma & I truly grateful, their details are http://www.buckland.co.uk/
Finally Emma and I would like to thank everybody involved with help making the book come together, we couldn't have done it without you.

Fundraising begins.....

Emma and I are currently raising funds for our deposit for our trek, over the last few weekends why the weather is still warm I thought I would try attending some boot fairs, so I asked all my friends and family to raid their attics, wardrobes and cupboards so I would have plenty of stuff to sell.
So far I have attended 3 boot fairs, I sometimes wonder if packing my car up the night before, getting up at the crack of dawn and driving with the car so full up you can't see out is all worth it ? Oh and of course you then have the customers coming up to you when your trying to set up your stall asking you "what you got" "have you got this" or "have you got that" this is even before you got the boxes or even the table out of the car!
So I take a deep breath, keep my cool and I know those people who know me well are thinknig this is unlike Sarah! but its all for a good cause and believe it or not it was all well worth it as we raised some much needed funds for the charity and our deposit.

The last boot fair I did Emma & her mum June came along & also had a stall too. We decided to attend the Ashford Market boot fair held on Sundays as this has over 250 stalls and the man in charge of running the Sunday Market  Ray Scott even gave us 1 of our pitches for free as we were  also selling many items donated to the trust for our charity.
We all met up at 6.30 am & made sure we had our stalls next to each other although it was very hard work & seemed like a long day it all paid off in the end and having the 3 of us there serving, selling & wrapping made the day less stressful and all for a good cause raising money & promoting The Canterbury Oast Trust & The Rare breeds Centre. A big thank you to June for all her help & to Ray Scott for letting us have 1 of our pitches for free, every little helps!

I have also been working my socks off earning extra money for my trip including, working on my husbands farm stacking bales back in August. I have been doing overtime at weekends this has seen me waitresing at our conference centre & working in the gift shop at The Rare breeds Centre. To say my life is a little hectic at the mo is an understatement, working, looking after the house, a husband, 2 dogs & 2 cats. I have been working 7 days a week for the last few months this is my first weekend off in ages.

I have also discovered selling items on Ebay, this is brilliant. So if I get any free time I am selling all my unwanted clothes, handbags & jewellery on this site. Just another way to earn a little bit if extra money and supporting my local post office as well!
