Merry Christmas everyone and lets hope 2012 is a positive one for everyone.
I had a 2 day break from work to spend Christmas day and boxing day with my family which was brilliant, it was Adam and I's first Christmas as an official couple and it was just perfect. I am on countdown to January now when the serious training begins for our trip to china.
Sarah and I are getting together in the new year at the pub of course to discuss the next four months and what it will bring.
I cant believe it is so near and we are just a couple of hundred pound away from reaching our pledged amount to raise of £5000.
Well i wish everyone a happy new year and i will be in touch again soon.#

A busy week for me and I'm sure its a busy week for everyone else too. I have been playing the role of Rudolph in our grotto at work!!! Its been great even if after tomorrow we have been acting the same scenes for at least 6 times a day for 7 days on the trott. Its defiantly been worth it though because its a bit different and the kids love it.

Also another bit of news in this weeks Tenterden issue of the Kentish Express Emma and I have had a write up about how well the craft fair went that took place the weekend before last.

We are really happy at all the publicity we have been receiving, it all helps to promote the charity and all the good work that everyone does there.

In case I don't post again Merry Xmas to you all and best wishes for you all for 2012 x

Another successful fundraising event for Emma and I this weekend, this was our last big fundraising event of the year. This is a big milestone for Emma and I as it marks a very long year of hard fundraising for us but by god it has been worth it. Anyway back to the weekend, Emma and I had a stall each selling cakes, biscuits, cookies, jams, chutneys and cook books. The fair was busy and we didn't even get a chance to sit down but that' what its all about. I was the one organising the fair I was running around making sure all the stall holders were ok and had to make sure everything was going to plan but I can't complain because all our customers were very nice and generous we were even selling cakes to the stall holders! Emma and I didn't stop talking about china all weekend!
As well as selling all our goodies some people made donations as well and to everyone who brought off our stalls or who kindly donated to us/charity we are truly grateful.
So after the busy two days our total raised was £410 this was a combinations of what we sold and donations. I think you will agree this is a fantastic amount and Emma and I are really amazed at how generous people are and we can't thank you all enough.
It leaves me to say a big thank you to all involved that made this weekend possible, thank you to June (Emma's mum) and Anna (my sis) who helped us on the stall with setting up and clearing away.
Also a special thanks to June, Anna, Heather, Julie, Siana and James who made us the stock to sell without you we really wouldn't have had a great supply of goodies to sell!
Also a big thank you to Shelia who also provided us with lots of items to sell that she made herself including cushions, blankets & doorstops.
We really appreciate everyones help and support and thank you to all that came along to support us and the fair.

We have had a hectic day with plenty of visitors coming along to the xmas fair and buying lots of our homemade goodies and also telling all about our charity. James is in the kitchen now baking more supplies for tomorrow.

I will be posting again soon with some photos and a update on how the weekend went.

Thank you to all who have helped us so far x

big weekend

Its nearly upon us, for me its come at the end of a long week but I am so excited to be spending the weekend fundraising with Sarah. I earlier sat myself down at work with a cuppa to reflect on the day, looking at the clock thinking not long to go. when i thought i would drop Sarah a text...my text went like this "Christ everyone busy baking I bet you are too" the reply came "yep no time to talk!" well that certainly told me to stop texting. Sarah comes into her own on events like this because her and her husband James can bake. Me and my fiance Adam simply cant. Thank goodness for my mum and sister who are busy busy baking too. Of course with out the support of so many this weekend would not happen, I know many are busy baking tonight so a huge thanks to them all.

I will work at putting together the other elements of the weekend like sitting thinking what I am going to eat for lunch.....silly me that will be cakes.

well i look forward to reporting on the outcome of the weekend....

wish us luck

Did anyone see us in the paper last week? Emma and I was in the Tenterden issue of the Kentish Express and the Ashford Herald. We were promoting our cookbook and the craft fair that is taking place this weekend. The article was really big and we are proud of it.

Thank you to our work colleagues that made the above possible.

Well December is upon us and week to go until our craft fair, I have just made some more chilli jam to sell. I have also been looking up recipes of cakes & goodies to see what I can make for us to sell next week. I still haven't spoken to Emma since I've been back! We keep trying to contact each other but 1 of us is always at work and cannot talk! We have our xmas party tonight so will have to catch up then!

Am off now to get some bits & bobs ready for next week.

Training.....

I found it within me today to go out on the bike, I biked from my home through a very hilly country side to Aldington and back home again. 10 mile round trip which would have been fine but really honestly some of the inclines are horrendous.
I have been busy putting a plan together for my training with swimming, gym and bike high on the priority. It really will be the worse time of year to do the training with the weather but i am on 5 week countdown till it begins.
well i best contact Sarah and see how her trip was. Its good to have the old girl back.

A moment to reflect

Hi everyone,

I am feeling like I need to reflect on our challenge, I have just sat and plodded my way through 300 photos from the October charity challenge china trek, there were 30 people in the group and the photos are utterly amazing. they actually got my tummy doing twists and turns in all directions as i relished yet again just what it is i will be doing in 177 days.
Sarah flew out today to the cape Verde islands for a weeks break which she deserves (no i am not jealous at all). Its left me holding the fort so to speak which is quite scary.
My attention is drawn to the Christmas craft fair weekend which is a 2 day event held at The Rare Breeds center, last year was a great success with a cake stall so this year we have gone that little bit further and have had lots of people busy making craft items as well as preparing a mammoth baking session.
Last Saturday we took to rye with our buckets to work at The Mariners Tea Rooms which is part of our charity, the manager there Sharon spent months preparing for the pastie night which turned into the most successful night in the tea rooms history, Sarah and I had so much fun helping cook, serve and eat the pasties. They were yummy. Although we never really grabbed the opportunity to fundraise it was yet again a great night promoting our challenge.
The wedding fair was another opportunity to promote the trek and was even better for me what with my wedding planning in full swing.
People often ask me how do i juggle a full time demanding job, training and fundraising and now i have the wedding to plan........its easy...... i don't sit down.

well that's me done for now i must get to the gym for another 60 minute work out.

Thursday 10 November 2011

Hello

Hi everyone,

my sincere apologies to you all and of course Sarah, life has been so manic with work matters and wedding planning that my blog posts have been put on the back boiler so to speak but good news my life has slowly returned back to all most normality. We have set a date Adam and I will be getting married on the 1st of September 2012 so to say next year has now become a fairly busy one is an understatement.
Sarah has done yet again a brilliant job of keeping things plodding along, we both really enjoyed Halloween down on the farm despite me suffering from a 'man cold' evil thing it was, we raised more money towards our fundraising target and so now we are busy preparing for our next events which include an evening at our very own Coterie Tearooms, a stall at our very own wedding fayre and then of course our Christmas craft fair which we predict will be a great weekend.
Training has been non existent recently as I have been going through a hell of a time with a knee issue that has plagued my life since 2006, I have actually recently had some days where i have seriously had to consider what it is I am about to embark on, But i have learnt a lesson and that's not to keep this to myself and to discuss my worries and concerns with others. which i did at the doctors yesterday, i wasn't expecting the support i received and i am truly grateful to the nice doctor for pulling out a huge needle and inserting it in my knee. my hope is that this cortisone injection gives me some relief for a short while enabling me to exercise to get back to the fitness level i was at a couple of months ago, unfortunately if i don't exercise my knee and other leg muscles disappear so quickly. i knew when i signed up for this amazing challenge it would be more of a challenge for me than most but no regrets, like i always say i am going to do it and i am going to do it well.
well i wont leave it so long i promise, will be in touch again shortly.

thanks again to all for all there support

Halloween half term has been & gone can you believe it, this time last week we were still putting the finishing touches to our biggest event of the year. We have been busy working night & day! I have just finished a 7 day & 3 night week!
During the day we had family fun activities and for the big kids that don't mind being scared we had our night time terror which wasn't for the faint hearted! Emma and I worked together during the night time event, our job was to lie low in the woods and jump out and scare poor inocent members of the public completing the woodland walk!

I would also like to thank all those kind members of the public who donated to our charity in conjuction with our chinatrek, Emma and I hoped you had a great day out at the Rare Breeds Centre.

James also took part in the night time terror events. If any of you did come along James was one of the tractor drivers on the terror tractor trailer rides! Do any of you reconise him?

Halloween half term is here and we were really busy on the farm today, the sun must have brought the people out! We are still putting the finishing touches to our Halloween Event which all kicks off on Wednesday. Today I did pig racing my 1st since the summer, for those who don't know not only is our pig racing fun and famous it is also a great opportunity to introduce Emma and myself and our massive challenge ahead. Whilst I'm on the microphone I inform all our visitors of who and what our charity is all about, believe it or not many people that come and visit us don't know that we are a charity! Today with our collection buckets at the race track we manged to raise £46.13, this is amazing and Emma and I would like to thank all those that gave very generously today. All money raised from our collection buckets at pig racing this week will go straight to the charity we both work for The Rare Breeds Centre and The Canterbury Oast Trust in conjunction with out China Trek.

Many thanks for all your support x

Halloween is our biggest Event that we put on at the centre with family fun during the day and night time terror for the evening you can see why we have so much to prepare and organise. So must come and visit us to see what its all about, Emma and I will be out and about hoping to raise some money for the Trust in conjunction with our China Trek. Who would have thought this time last year Emma and I was just starting our mammoth task of trying to raise £5000 and nearly 1 year on we have both managed to raise £4413. So we have nearly reached our target but we will keep going to raise as much needed money as we can.

Please follow this link to see whats on offer during half term and don't forget to come ad find us we would love to see you.

Yesterday saw me take part in the Ashford 10k race, which started at the Julie Rose Stadium and did a circuit around Ashford then finished at the stadium as well. When I woke up in the morning it was raining so I was praying it would stop as I'm not an all weather runner! I had paid to enter so I felt I should participate  regardless but seriously do you know anyone that would really go out running in the rain for pleasure! Anyway the race started at 10am and by the time I picked my sis up and got to the stadium it had left off raining. I was really pleased I took part in the race because they shut the roads on which the route took and best of all as we ran pass the fire station where all the fire crew were out lined up cheering us on!!! Got to love that! When I told my sis she had a laugh! I completed the race in 59mins so well pleased with that.
I probably won't do any more races until next year now as winter is approaching I can't get outside to train :(

Roll on next year when the weather is better and its light in the mornings and at night time!

Thank you to Anna and her friend Rose that came along to support me.

I'm off to hibernate now as its only 6.30pm and its already dark :(

Last Thursday night saw Emma and I host our big quiz evening, this took quite a bit of organizing but it was defiantly well worth it. It took Emma and I from 2pm Thursday afternoon until 6.30pm to get the hall ready, with 16 teams booked we had to get it right. With a maximum of 8 per team we estimated that we had about 128 people take part which is is amazing. Many of our residents took part as well and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves and its nice to see them involved. It also shows what raising this money for our charity is all about. The night kicked off at 7.30pm, with me reading out the questions whilst Emma was chief marker! We had 6 different rounds which inclued Music, TV & Film, Sport, Geography, Food & Drink and General Knowledge, we also had a picture round which was flags from around the world. After a couple of rounds we had a break to sell raffle tickets for our grand raffle and after a couple of more rounds we drew the raffle. All prizes were kindly donated by local companies, which we thank very much. Our 1st prize was £50 pounds worth of John Lewis vouchers  and congratulations to Hazel Payne, a volunteer in our gift shop who won these. 2nd prize was won by Steve & Angela Ransley, they won £25 in cash, Steve and Angela kindly donated there winnings to our cause so we would like to thank them very much, and appreciate their donation. Emma and I feel the night went really well, we wanted it to be enjoyable, fun and have a relaxed atmosphere so I hope this came across to all those that took part. As well as the quiz, raffle, prize for the best team name we had James selling homemade cakes off his hostess trolley! James had been busy the day before making chocolate shortcake which is yummy but deadly! Emma's mum June made cheese scones and we also had my friends mum - Lynn donate some cupcakes. These went onto Jame's trolley and once he got his pinny on James got busy going round all the tables selling the homemade goodies with all profits going towards our charity.
So it leaves me to announce the winners which was Jerry Kenwards team, Jerry is our operations manager at The Canterbury Oast Trust so well done to all on Jerry's team. The best team name went to The Quizzie Rascals.

Such a fantastic night and we managed to raise a whopping £485 this is just brilliant and Emma and I really didn't expect to raise this much. We would like to thank you all for coming along and showing your support we really would not be able to have reached this amazing total without you.

I would like to say a special thank you to:

John Lewis/Waitrose
Premier foods
Rimmel - Coty
Leeds Castle
Dickens World
Fitness First
Minners Farm Liveries
Tesco

Steve & Angela for donating back there raffle prize of £25

June for baking cheese scones
Lynn Hine for baking cupcakes
James for baking millionaires shortbread

and to all our helpers on the night.......

June and Phil
Heather
Adam
James and
Pete & Carl who ran the bar for the evening.

Thank you so much to everybody for making this event a success

Emma's catch up

Hello,

its really been a while since i last posted but that's not to say china is not on my mind. Its just 224 days away which is just over seven months......crikey.
well i had a perfect 2 week break in turkey completely relaxed and had fun with my partner and good friends. whilst there Adam proposed to me to which i said yes. So I am getting married.
On return we moved into our own home which is already just perfect, we are settling into life together.
Well thank you to Sarah for holding the fort whilst i was away, Sarah has been working really hard on ensuring the quiz night preparations are up to date, which they are. its less than a week away and Sarah and I are really looking forward to it, we have 15 teams entered who will battle it out for the winning prize.
Training has re started with a couple of trips to the gym and a few runs local to where i live now.

well i just wanted to touch base with everyone and say hi, for those attending the quiz night Sarah and i will see you there or maybe we will see you over Halloween as that's just round the corner too. I will be down on the farm that week meeting and greeting so please do come and say hello.

Well I'm back from my hols and back to work tomorrow :( I met up with Emma yesterday to have a catch up, as Emma has also been away and has moved house since I last saw her. We had a lot to discuss what with the quiz night up and coming which is less than 2 weeks away! The quiz night is coming together nicely with only a few finishing touches to do. We are fully booked for the night with 16 teams so we need to make sure we are organised! We have had some great local companies being very generous donating prizes for our raffle which will also be held on the night so we are just in the middle of sorting out what will be 1st prize!
So am just off now to finish off the quiz questions!

This weekend saw me being really active! On Saturday I took part in a Charity 10k run in Bedgebury Forest, this course was obviously off road and with all the rain we have had lately I was really worried about slipping over! But I need not to have worried as all of the course was on the main tracks through the woods which is on compacted gravel which was a bonus. Again I was really nervous which seems to be the norm for me now! My sister Anna and my dog Dino came long to support me and I completed the race in 1 hour 2 minutes and I really enjoyed it! I think I'm starting to relax more when running now which helps a lot.
So thank you to Anna for coming along to support me and keep an eye on me!

http://www.forestry.gov.uk/bedgebury

Sunday saw James, Anna my 2 dogs Dino & Bo & I walk the 10k route I ran last weekend in Charing, it took us 2 hours but the weather was good. The dogs were knacked afterwards as were we!

So a busy weekend for us all but well worth it.

This weekend saw me take part in another 10K running event which took part in Charing. The race went around the lanes, up a slight hill which was the worst bit and then finished along part of the pilgrims way. James came along to support me and to carry my towel and water! James also managed to find the homemade cake stall! I was really pleased with my time, I completed the run in an hour which means I have knocked 6 mins off of the time I did the London 10K in back in July. I really can't believe how well I did considering I had to walk up the hill in the race!

I will be taking part all being well in another 10K race at Bedgebury Forest this coming weekend this is for the Marie Curie Charity.

This page is dedicated to my sister for all the help, ideas, donations, time, effort, encouragement & support you have given me over the last few months regarding our China Trek. Anna is constantly lending a hand and donating her hard earned pennies to us. Just the other day she gave me some items of hers to sell at the boot fair I did and she said all money sold from them can go towards our trek.

Thursday 1 September 2011

its me....

Where is time going the weeks are whizzing pass and before we no it we will be heading to china......scary thought.
Well this is me checking in and checking out. Im off on my hols in a couple of days to turkey for 2 weeks then on return i am moving house so although i will try my hardest to post I cant promise.
I just want to say thank you to everyone for putting up with my stressful outbursts recently(moving house is a nightmare), to everyone who continues to support Sarah and I in our challenge, to all the visitors who kindly donate money, to all who have donated raffle prizes and especially to Sarah for holding the fort and who is really working hard at arranging everything needed for the quiz night.
Thank you.

Take care everyone and i look forward to posting again soon.

Another busy day at the farm, people making the most of the last few days of the school holidays. I did pig racing today and with help from my colleagues Nikki and Adam managed to raise £24 so a big thank you for all those members of the public that kindly donated today.
Emma and I had a catch up on the phone today we now won't see each other for 3 weeks as she is away for 2 weeks then when she returns I go away! So it was really important to talk Quiz night as it is fast approaching and we won't have long to the big night once I return from holiday. Emma picked up a food hamper today which was kindly donated to us from Premier Foods Ashford (formally Bachelors). We are still seeking raffle prizes but for those companies that have already donated we both thank you all very much.

Well busy weekend for me I decided to do a couple of boot fairs to earn some spending money for me for the China Trek. Saturday saw me in the loft sorting out all the gear I didn't want I also priced up my goods and packed up my car for an early start on Sunday, sounds like an easy job but it took me nearly all day!
On Sunday I did the boot fair at Brookland, James also managed to come along to lend a hand, although I'm sure he came along for the burger stall! I told him he would need to pay for his food out of his own pocket not my profits! We had a really good day I made about £45 which was good as all my stuff was priced around 50p & £1. I really enjoy doing boot fairs, I know thats sad but its like having your own shop and your in charge! Also what you think is crap and old toot always manages to sell and I sold about half my stuff. So after a sucessful day I thought as my car was already packed up I might as well do another on Bank Holiday Monday. I know there was another booty being held at Great Chart cricket club so I thought if I wake up and the weather is good I will do it. So off we went again Monday morning setting off at 6.30am, James joined me again bless him it was his birthday and he spent the morning in a field selling all our bits and bobs. He was well happy though when the old bbq started up but again he wanted to take the money for his burger out of the profits well I said no & he had to pay for it out of his birthday money! We both had a good day and made £47.50, I didn't have much stock left over what I did have I bagged up for the charity shop. So we are both knackered but I think it was well worth it.

Back to work today, this week is the last week of the school holidays and I did Pig Racing today and I would like to say a big thank you to all those kind people that donated to our charity.

Thats all for now folks x

Anna also baked me some cup cakes which were yum, I managed to eat 4 of them today! Don't worry I still went out for my bike ride tonight to burn those naughty calories off!

Now for our next fundraising event, for those who haven't heard Emma and I will be holding another quiz night on 6th October. We only have space for a few more teams so please get in touch if you fancy taking part. We are currently sourcing prizes for our raffle to be drawn on the night, we have some fantastic prizes so far with more to follow I hope.

Remember the bagpuss that was knitted by Hazel (shop volunteer) and donated to Emma and I to help raise some much needed money for our charity. Well I drew the winning ticket to today and it was won by Kane. Well done Kane you are now the proud owner of old bagpuss make sure you look after him!
Thank you to all those that brought tickets, we managed to raise over £100.

I also would like to say a massive thank you to Peter Webb a colleague who kindly made a large donation to our cause.

Thank you

Hello all hope your all well, I have been busy still trying to keep fit! I am dreading the winter because its going to be to dark & cold to train or keep fit - during the week that is. Oh well lets not dwell on the nasty winter months that are ahead of us! I took part in a 5 mile race yesterday in Staplehurst, it was a real good race as it was all flat. This is my 1st proper race on my own and I was really nervous I completed it in 55 minutes, so was very happy with that and I even got a medal, which put a smile on my face. Thank you to Anna for coming along to support me, it was nice to have someone I knew at the finish line.

Regarding fund raising Emma and I are still working hard collecting prizes for our quiz night, which will be held on the 6th October. I know this seems a long way off but believe me it won't be long coming round. I've already started putting together the questions for the night, if anyway if anyone would like to enter a team please do get in touch with Emma or me.

We had a really good day on Thursday working in the Hitrade charity shop in Sidcup, we met all the lovely ladies & John who work so hard in the shop. Rita our volunteer manager from the trust dropped off lots of bags & boxes containing items that had been donated to the shop. So we got stuck in started pricing items and putting new stock out onto the shelves. Even though the shop is small it is always really busy. The cake I baked went down really well, we had a slice & a cup of tea once we had earnt our tea break!
The best news of all the Hitrade committee kindly donated £200 towards our trek, this took Emma & I completely by surprise and we cannot thank them enough. They are all really supportive of our trek & fundraising & they all do such an amazing job, we can't thank them enough. All the staff from the shop are visiting the farm this Wednesday for our Fun day so we look forward to seeing them all again.

Thank you Hitrade, we will up to visit you all again very soon.

Even though it was raining when I got up this morning it turned out to be a nice day, which meant another busy day on the farm. Again I did pig racing and we had a great crowd in that donated very generously. Today's total was £36.54 so on behalf of Emma and myself THANK YOU so much and we hope to see you all again at the centre.

Some more news now we have have 2 new arrivals that have moved in on the farm today. We have 2 Blonde Mangalitsa - these are pigs that originated from Hungry. They are also known as curly haired hogs and now classed as a Rarebreed!

These animals are a must see, so make sure you come and visit them.

Emma and I are off to work in our Charity Shop tomorrow, the shop is based in Sidcup and we are also taking one of our residents up with us. The ladies who work there are always very welcoming, I have baked a cake for them to say thanks for having us. I will let you know how we got on

Good evening

Summer holidays are here and we were busy down on the farm today, I did Pig Racing today which in short means I get on the microphone before the race and introduce Emma and I. I inform the public of our challenge and that we are raising money for a fantastic charity and if anyone would like to donate any spare change to help us reach our target we would both really appreciate it. So it leaves me to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all those very kind people that donated to a great cause. Thank you so much and I hope you all enjoyed you day at the centre especially the Pig Race!

I would also like to thank my friend Jodie's mum Lyn and her family who continually support The Rarebreeds Centre and our challenge, thank you and I really appreciate all your help and look forward to seeing you at the quiz night

Well how are we all, quick update for you all!

Our total now stands at £3709 we are both really proud of what we have achieved so far but owe this all to the very kind people that have donated and raised money on our behalf - we really do appreciate all your hard work you have put in to helping us both.

Last week Emma & I met up to see where we are at with our fundraising, we also discussed our next big event. After the Fun day on the farm on the 3rd August, we want to try & organise another quiz night for October. A lot of you have said to us that you really enjoyed the last quiz & would love us to put on another one. So back with popular demand the next quiz will be in October - date TBC. We plan to hold another raffle on the night too, so we are busy writing to companies for raffle donations. We have had a good response so far which are mentioned on our sponsors page, but I would like to personally thank Pete Hine (my friend Jodie's dad!) who kindly donated a hamper box of wines, and I only think its right that I mention Pete's company and also Jodie's business these are:

Also as Emma has previously mentioned we have our Fun day on the farm on 3rd August, please refer to this link to see what activities will be happening on the day. www.rarebreeds.org.uk/
We hope to see you on the day and bring the sunshine!

Its raining and nasty outside this morning, James has walked the dogs, so am writing this from my bed whilst listening to Beyonce!

Now for some amazing news my colleague Sharon Finch who works as a training tutor in our restaurant at the Rarebreeds completed The Great Kent Bike Ride back in June. Now this is a massive achievement in it self, 60 miles long was the route and Sharon did it all on her own but Sharon didn't stop there she very kindly donated all her sponsor money to our China fund. I know Sharon worked really hard to raise an amazing £205, this is a fantastic amount, Emma and I can not thank you enough we both really appreciate all the hard work you put into the race and raising this huge amount.

Thank you so much Sharon, you should be proud of yourself, what an amazing achievement.

Hello all

Well I have recovered from my 10K run which took place on Sunday, for those who haven't heard myself, Emma & another work colleague Steve completed the London 10K. It was a long day, I got up at 5am and we all caught the 07.03am train up to Charing Cross. After putting our bags in and warming up we made our way to the start line along with 25,000 other runners. Steve and I had never taken part in an organised run before, we were all really nervous, even though I had been in training I never knew what distance I had been running, so I was hoping I would finish the run still running! I have to say that I really enjoyed taking part in this race, it was such an achievement and the scenery was amazing. Having Big Ben in the distance to run towards was a bit different! makes a change from running around fields in Woodchurch.

It leaves me to say well done Emma and Steve you both did really well you should be proud of
yourselves.

Oh yes I finished the race in 1 hour 6 mins, we have all got the running bug now and plan to take part in some more organized runs, hopefully more local!

London 10k run......we did it.

Hi everyone,

We did it Sarah and I yesterday joined 25,000 other people in running the London 10k, what a massive achievement for us both and a great training event towards the trek

I really wanted to complete the course in a quicker time than last year but with little training behind me I didn't hold out much hope, but I did it in one hour 10 minutes, 3 minutes shorter than last year.
It has to be a massive congratulations to Sarah though, it was Sarah's first ever 10k run and she really didn't know what to expect but she did it and she did it good, completing the course in one hour six minutes.

CONGRATULATIONS SARAH FROM YOUR OLD TREKKING PAL.

We had company on the run with a fellow colleague Steve joining us, who also works for our charity. Steve completed the course in one hour five minutes which is a fantastic time, well done Steve and thanks for your company.

We were surrounded by 25,000 other runners who were all raising money for many many different charities, it brought home to me just how well we are doing raising money for a charity close to our hearts when there are so many other needy charities that people could give their money too.
We have reached £3500 raised since October 2010, we are on our way to reaching and exceeding are pledged amount of £5000 and its thanks to so many kind people.
I crossed the finishing line excited, happy, proud and drained. My race was full of emotions as I passed by people with there prosthetic limbs, people with signs saying "I'm running in memory of my mum" people who were raising money for those less fortunate, for the sick, the elderly so many worthy causes. well done to everyone who took part, congratulations to those who beat there personal best times. I feel privileged to have been part of that.

Well its steady fundraising now as we begin to realize just what it is we are doing and also thinking about the destination we are heading too. The charity challenge holdall is getting full of the new trekking gear, boots are ready to be worn in and Sarah and I are busy planning future events. We have fun day at the farm on the 3rd of august which we hope will be a great opportunity to meet some people, spread the word and tell everyone about our charity challenge.

Can I please remind people about our just giving page, please if you would like to show support to Sarah and I and donate any amount, then follow the link via the blog, all monies go directly to The Canterbury Oast Trust and The rare Breeds Centre.....our charity.

Thank you for following us via this blog, its great to know that people are following us as we go through this amazing chapter in our lives.

Hellooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Just returned from cycling tonight absolutely drenched, I got caught in the rain :( So have you all remembered that Emma and I are running the London 10k on Sunday? Well I've got 4 days left of training, I have been running for an hour each morning and cycling for an hour in the evening, weather permitting! For those who don't know I sometimes take my dogs running with me in the mornings and today I took Dino. We went running on James's farm so Dino was on familiar territory but we still had a hiccup. We were both on the home straight together then Dino disappeared, after a long search I called James in for help (who was working on the farm). I carried on my way home to see if he had made it home when I had a phone call from James to say he found him. He was in the field where was last seen! So I am not quite sure what happened but reckon I reckon he has a girlfriend on the go!

Bag puss update - He is doing us proud, we have sold lots of tickets and will draw the winner on our Fun day Event at the farm on the 3rd August.

So wish us good luck for our run on Sunday and I will update you all very soon. x

Good evening all, did we all have a good weekend? I did because I went to see the 2nd best man in my life BON JOVI! So I had a late night Saturday got into bed at 2.30am and had to be in work for 9am! I did make it though. It was our giant craft fair at the Rarebreeds all weekend Emma also came in & volunteered to work, Emma & myself were on car park duty in the morning after that was completed we were promoting our trek and the charity. We had a really busy day & there was lots if visitors, we both did Pig Race with help from Adam, Anna & Nikki and we managed to Raise a whopping £103 so thank you to you if you were one of those who kindly donated.
I would also like to say a big thank you to Shelia Morgan a volunteer for the Rarebreeds Centre, Shelia also had a stall at the craft fair and kindly donated some of her money she had made to our cause.

Thank you to you all and thank you to all the people I met who wished us good luck with the trek.

Good evening all

Sorry I haven't been in touch lately but I have been on my hols, recharged my China Trek batteries now I'm back on board! Well as you have read my 1st weekend back was a busy one, Emma and I attended the volunteers lunch held at the centre. We took along our mascot Bagpuss! he is lovely, he was kindly knitted and donated to us by Hazel Payne (shop volunteer.) Emma and I are selling tickets at £1 each so if you fancy having a go at winning him do get in touch with us. I will post a photo shortly of him.
We had a very successful day and met all the amazing volunteers that give up there time and help in all different areas of The Rarebreeds Centre and Canterbury Oast Trust. So it leaves me to say a huge Thank you to all that kindly donated or brought tickets on the day with the money we raised on the day our total now is £3314. Another big thank you goes to one of the trustees of The Canterbury Oast Trust who kindly gave Emma and I a cheque for £100, as you can see the support we are both receiving is truly amazing and for this we are very grateful.
We have also been donated a first aid kit each by Wallace and Cameron, this company supply our centre with first aid items, so for this we both say thank you and hope we won't have to make use of them! www.wallacecameron.com

Hello everyone,
Well what a weekend firstly Sarah and I made our way to Rye yesterday for our bucket collection, we received a permit last year so it was a much anticipated day, what a hugely disappointing day though as the Great British weather meant we had monsoon rain on arrival to Rye, We made a trip round all the car parks and up through the high street in the car and very soon realised it really would be silly to stand in the pouring rain (as much as we wanted to), as just no one was out and about in Rye. So over a cuppa and cookie in Jempsons we made the decision to head home. So onto today Sunday we decided to spend our time today amongst a wonderful group of people. These people are the volunteers of Canterbury oast trust, Sarah and I didn't think we would be able to make it to the event (volunteers lunch) but we are so glad that time allowed us to as we met so many people who's support means so much to Canterbury Oast Trust and to us. Aside from raising £187 which is simply amazing we met people who seemed so interested in what we are doing who asked questions to which we enjoyed answering and of course these people who give all this time to our charity as volunteers also gave money.
£187 is a fantastic amount of money from an event that was Canterbury Oast trust based, it really does show what this charity means to so many people including both Sarah and I.
We must make two special thank you's firstly to a gentleman who very kindly wrote a cheque for £100.00.....wow this kind of generosity makes such a difference to our fundraising efforts and will of course help us reach and exceed our fundraising pledge of £5000 and also a thank you to Hazel Payne a volunteer who has kindly knitted and donated a large 'bag puss' teddy, we are selling raffle tickets at £1 a ticket to win 'bag puss'. The competition will be running till august so plenty of time to see Sarah or me and purchase tickets.
In all a fantastic fundraising day amongst people who are Canterbury oast trust, people who care and people who showed us so much support. Thank you.

Hi everyone,
so sorry its been a while since my last post, as you can see we have exceeded £3000 in money raised which is amazing as we still have over 11 months to go before we head to china. sarah is on her holidays at the moment in Turkey with her sister (our personal trainer Anna), i hope there having a good time.
I have just enjoyed a really lovely couple of days of work as its my Birthday today. In all newspaper reports sarah has informed the reporter of my age, telling them all im 28, well finally now that is correct. (im getting old).
I treated myself today to some new trekking boots, we purchased boots a few months ago but neither sarah or i was happy with them so we now both have another pair to wear in, i have a good feeling these will be the ones that take me along The Great Wall of China, they appear much better quality.
I will wait for sarahs return and head somewhere for a old good trek to try them out.
We are both running in the London 10k this july so with 4 weeks to go i will start training for this event on saturday with a good run and then regular running for 4 weeks till the day we participate.
any money raisied will go towards are china trek fundraising as its all for our charity.
well I will enjoy whats left of my birthday with a slice of cake, i mean if you cant indulge on your birthday then when can you.
Just another little note but we have our exciting day in rye on the 18th where we have been given a permit to street collect for the day, we are so lucky to recieve a permit and cant wait to meet the people of east sussex. come and say hello if your local we will be situated in the hight street all day.

Anther busy week, as I said in my last post I said that Emma and I were given permission to collect money and promote our charity outside the entrance to Asda in Ashford. We also took along Charles one of our residents from the care home that Emma works at. Charles was a great help collecting money and giving out leaflets. Anyway it was a real eye opener to Emma and I some people gave really generously and stopped to talk to us, some people were interested in the charity and The Rare Breeds Centre, other people just completely ignored us! Oh well you can't win them all, at the end of the day we managed to collect £40 which I thought was really good considering it wasn't that busy at the supermarket and the weather was real nasty which probably kept shoppers away.

Emma and I would like to a huge thank you to all the nice, helpful staff at Asda that made our day a success.

Im Home from my hols.

Hi everyone,
I returned home from my 10 day holiday to Turkey, had a very relaxing and fun time with lots to eat and drink.....yes i over indulged which has meant it was straight up the gym this morning and to the supermarket to purchase good old weight watchers food. I have not had chance to catch up with Sarah since retunring but hope to very very soon. I do know she payed in a further £50 though when I was away because i had a text that went something like this "do you think you could drag yourself away from your sunbed to update justgiving, i have payed in £50" I love them kind of texts.
I can't believe this time next year we will there, in china trekking The Great Wall just a year to go and all the fundraising efforts we hope would have payed of with our pledged amount reached and all the training efforts will help us to achieve our dream.

well im off for a run clearly an hours gym session not satisfied me enough and its back to work tomorrow so im going to make the most of it.

The china team went out training again yesterday, we started at The Pilot (restaurant) in Dungeness and walked along the sea front to St Mary's Bay. We walked for three hours and no we didn't stop for fish and chips along the way, I had a nice squashed homemade sandwich in my rucksack.
Today I have to say my feet are fine, I think its because I actually wore proper trekking socks they really do make a difference.
Emma is on her hols now she is basking in the sun in Turkey so it will be me and my sis out trekking this Sunday.

By Emma...13 mile charity trek

We did it, we trekked 13 miles around Bewl Water in aid of British Heart Foundation. Its the first time Sarah and I have road tested our kit including the boots and they passed the test apart from a leaky water pouch and a little pinky problem for Sarah we trekked the 13 very hilly miles in 3 hours 53 minutes.

We recruited a personal trainer today too, Sarahs sister Anna who joined us on the trek today and although is not fully aware will be joining us on any future events or training we participate in, thanks Anna for joining TEAM CHINA.
Although there was a serious reason behind our trek today we did have fun, chatting along like 3 old women, I'm the youngest but I actually think I moaned the most. It was tough going I wont lie and now as I lie on the sofa I'm dreading having to get up.

We did on average 18 minute miles which is a nice moderate pace, some of the hilly sections tested our leg strength but i think we did well, we pushed it towards the end as the finish line was in sight.

Sarah drinking thats a rare to see and me (Emma) nearly stacking it.

Me again and our new personal trainer Anna

After the trek with our muscles aching, the sweat dripping, feet killing there was only one thing for it........an ice cream.

Just perfect, training has commenced heres to many more enjoyable treks in the lead up to the finale,

Well well well how are we all? God its turned cold bring back the hot weather!

Well has anybody heard of the the new craze at the moment of putting your feet into a tank of water and the fish nibbling all your dry skin? Its meant to be really good for your feet and the fish love it. So after going to visit my gran this morning my sister and I went to try this out. With all the running, cycling and dog walking I do my poor feet aren't the best looking! So for those that don't know there is a new shop opened up in Ashford called APPY FEET, we went straight in, no appointment needed. You sit there dangling your feet into the tank of water and all the fish swarm around your feet. It didn't really like this feeling but I persevered as I know the fish were doing a good job. Anyway after all that my feet are now as smooth as a baby's bum! Next time I'm going to take Emma, god have you seen the state of her pinky's!

On a more serious note, I paid in some more money today which has now made our total £2756.00, I think we are well on track and its a big thank you to all that have donated, you know who you are. x

Hope you all enjoyed your Easter break, I don't want to see or eat any more chocolate ever again! Not having eaten any chocolate for 3 months was maybe a bit to long! Got loads of the stuff, so lucky for James he can have my share of Easter chocolate too.

Can I also say thank you to my trekking partner Emma for all her hard work over the last couple of weeks, especially giving up her free time by volunteering herself for car park duties which is always a joy!

Thank you to Nikki and Adam for their help with bucket collections during Pig Race!

Emma and I had a well deserved day off today, having worked non stop for 2 weeks and Easter weekend we treated ourselves to a day out. We went to see the Titanic Exhibition in London at the O2 arena, well worth a visit.

I have also got this week off and have lots planned so will keep you posted.

by Emma

Hello everyone,

Sorry its been a while since I last posted its been busy busy as you can tell from Sarah's posts we have been busy fundraising down on the farm as well as working, I have been doing a lot of sleep ins which means long 24 hr shifts so my holiday to Turkey on the 9th May can't come quick enough.

Well what can I say but thank you so so much to all the visitors who came to the Rare breeds Centre during the last two weeks I have done some maths and worked out we raised over £600 from our collections. Yes wow.

I took some time off from my normal duties care side at C-O-T to volunteer myself to help out at the Easter event on the farm, a 4 day event with the very warm temperatures meant many people visited the centre, days started with a little car parking which as you can see we both really took to our role very seriously.

after car parking we took to the farm to meet and greet the visitors and yes i did dress up as a chicken, even with the temperatures so high i got into the spirit of Easter, Sarah dressed up as a rabbit, photo evidence provided

after we finished dressing up and promoting the trek we did our bucket collections just before pig racing which is where we experienced the generosity of so many people who we are so grateful to for donating so kindly.

after the long hot days it was indeed time for.......an Easter egg or two, a sit down and an ice cold drink of.......malibu and sprite. not ideal for the training but we have a year to go till we set off on our journey to The Great Wall of China so hopefully we will make up for it.

I recall Sunday morning when Sarah could indeed tuck into chocolate, it was quite amazing how she stuck to her challenge of not eating chocolate and I had great pleasure in sharing some seashell chocs with Sarah. well done Sarah I may, and I mean may join you next year.
well we have our 13 mile trek this Sunday around Bewl water, testing out the boots, I do hope our feet survive we will of course inform you all and may have a picture or two.
I will say goodbye as my beloved Manchester united are about to kick off in the champions league, yes I'm sorry football is taking priority here.

Thank you again to all our supporters who donated during the Easter break.

These totals are just fantastic. Over the last two weeks of the Easter holidays Emma and I have been out meeting and greeting people everyday. Pig racing has been the highlight of each day and this is where we have been introducing ourselves and where the public have been giving very generously to our charity.
A big thank you to all those members of the public who have donated over the past couple of weeks we both really appreciate your support.

I'm off now to eat some chocolate!

Good evening

Just got back from biking, yes still trying to keep fit! walked the dogs, cooked James's dinner and that's all after a days work and fundraising. I have just parked my bum on the sofa, honest! Emma and I have been on the go all day today. We both had  another really successful day at the farm, Emma did dress up in her chicken outfit but she didn't last long as it was so hot, so after a little while she did have to take it off. I don't blame her, I didn't want her fainting on me! I dressed up as a bunny and had my face painted but again as it was so hot, the paint smudged off my face. I will have photo evidence soon to prove we did make the effort to dress up! The most important thing though was raising money for the charity and our grand total today was £113.03, this was from donations through out the day and at Pig Racing. I really can't believe this amount it is truly amazing and there are some very kind and generous people out there and Emma and I can not thank you enough we do really appreciate your donations.

Emma and I will of course be up the farm tomorrow so will keep you posted on how it goes.

Hello all

Another busy day down at The Rarebreeds again today I managed along with help from my colleagues a massive £64.90 at Pig Racing today, this is just amazing so thank you to all those members of the public that donated and also thank you to the kind young lady that wished me luck with the trek. It all means so much to Emma and I. I didn't do Pig Race Tuesday as the microphone was broken and I know you are all thinking I could shout but honestly have you ever tried talking to a crowd of hundreds of people and making sure they understand what your on about? Didn't think so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway hopefully we are all back in working order from now on!
I'm looking forward to the Easter weekend as the forecast looks good and Emma has some time off work so she will be joining me down the old farm. Please, please do come along and visit we have lots of of activities going on & baby animals for you to see including chicks, lambs, piglets, baby goats. Oh yes did I forget to mention Emma will be dressing up as a chicken, now surely that's worth a visit even if it's just to see her!

Well the sun is shining which is good news for The Rarebreeds Centre, it means the place is buzzing with people making it a great place to work. It was my turn again to do Pig Racing which I got very embrassed about as the microphone stopped working half way through which made me look rather silly. I ended up trying to shout my way through the race, James said that I wouldn't have found that hard! Bucket collection made the charity a whopping £61.57 so Thank you again to all those kind, friendly people I met that donated.

The Easter weekend is not far away and the forcast looks good. Emma and I will be dressing up, meeting and greeting people and trying to raise as much money as we possibly can. So if you are planning to visit the centre be sure to come and find us.

I have 1 week to go before I can eat chocolate yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Bo is also getting in the Easter spirit
